There are significant differences between clamp type butterfly valves and flange type butterfly valves in terms of connection methods, installation and maintenance, structural characteristics, sealing performance, applicable scenarios, and cost prices, as follows:

1. Connection method:

Clamp on butterfly valve: There are no flanges at both ends of the valve body. The valve is clamped between the flanges of the two pipelines using double headed bolts, and the sealing is achieved by tightening the bolts.

Flange butterfly valve: The valve body is equipped with flanges at both ends, which are directly connected to the pipeline flange through bolts. A sealing gasket or rubber ring is used in the middle to enhance the sealing performance.

2. Installation and maintenance:

Clamp on butterfly valve: easy and fast installation, compact structure, and small space occupation; But if there is a problem with one sealing surface during maintenance, it is necessary to dismantle two pipeline flanges for inspection, which is more complicated to operate.

Flange butterfly valve: Installation requires a separate flange, which is a complex process and requires a large space; But during maintenance, only the flange bolts at both ends of the valve need to be disassembled for inspection, making the operation relatively convenient.

3. Structural features:

Clamp on butterfly valve: without additional flange structure, the overall structure is short in length and light in weight, suitable for pipeline systems with limited space.

Flange butterfly valve: Due to the need for more bolts for flange connection and the thicker flange itself, the overall structural length and weight are greater than those of clamp type, making it suitable for scenarios with high requirements for connection stability.

4. Sealing performance:

Clamp type butterfly valve: The sealing performance depends on the compression force of the elastic sealing ring, and the wedge-shaped design can achieve automatic sealing that becomes tighter as it is closed, usually with better sealing effect.

Flange butterfly valve: The sealing performance depends on the tightness of the flange connection, the quality of the sealing gasket, and the sealing structure of the valve. Factors such as installation accuracy, medium pressure, and temperature may affect the sealing effect.

5. Applicable scenarios:

Clamp on butterfly valve: suitable for medium and low pressure and small-diameter pipeline systems, such as building water supply and drainage, air conditioning systems, and general industrial pipelines, economical and practical.

Flange butterfly valve: suitable for high temperature, high pressure, and large-diameter pipeline systems, such as large chemical plants and thermal power plant high temperature and high pressure steam pipelines, with stable and reliable connections.

6. Cost and price:

Clamp type butterfly valve: simple structure, few components, low manufacturing cost, usually priced around 2/3 of flange type.

Flange butterfly valve: complex structure, requiring more materials and processing technology, high cost, relatively expensive price.
